Each of the 500+ member high schools of the WIAA has the opportunity to nominate one girl and one boy for the WIAA Scholar-Athlete Award.

Criteria for consideration include:

·       Minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 through the first semester of his/her senior year.

·       Must have earned at least four varsity letters in WIAA sanctioned sports through the winter season of his/her senior year.

·       Athletic Code Violations are taken into consideration in the selection process.

Each nominee is required to fill out an online form and also to submit an essay on “How has athletic participation contributed to your development and how do you think it will impact your future?”

Nominees are awarded points based on the number of letters earned, number of conference, regional, sectional, and State honors as an individual and as a member of a team.  They also list all of the school and non-school civic activities in which they are involved.

These criteria are examined and the WIAA selects 16 girls and 16 boys from across the State to receive statewide recognition.

This year Kewaskum High School had 15 young women and men eligible for these awards.  Combined they have earned 82 varsity letters for an average of just over 5.5 letters per student.  Together all 12 combined for an impressive average GPA of 3.686.

Both student athletes carry a 4.0 GPA.

Over the years Tierney has been in girls basketball, volleyball, soccer, and cross country.  Her letters came in soccer and cross country.

Colin has been in football, wrestling, and track & field with his letters coming in those three sports.

The WIAA announces later this spring and has an awards ceremony in May.
