Schairer’s background is primarily in financial management, but he had been thinking about investing in an establishment for the past seven years. “Finally, I decided to pull the trigger and move forward with it,” he said.

The name for the new establishment will be The Barton House.

“I want to keep it known in the community,” said Schairer.  “Calling it The Barton House would be easier for people to locate.”

Schairer was drawn to the building because of its history and the fact he grew up in Barton. “I graduated Barton Elementary and was there from kindergarten through fifth grade,” he said. “I had Mrs. Beilfuss in elementary and Mrs. Schmidt in first grade, Mrs. Larson for fifth grade…”

The timeline for opening has a target date of August 1, 2022. Schairer said he will “see how it goes.”

The menu will feature smoke items like smoked baby back ribs, smoked brisket, corned beef, smoked pulled pork and BBQ. Schairer said his chef has 40 years in the industry.

The property is being sold by Boro Buzdum, who purchased the parcel in early 2018 for $100,000.

There was a successful restaurant that operated out of that building, however Boro Buzdum did not own the business; he solely owned the building.

Buzdum put the property up for sale in November 2021. He had been asking $575,000.

This is a working story, and more details will be posted when information becomes available.
