Sneak peek inside new Village Hall in Jackson

October 5, 2021 – Jackson, WI – There’s an open house today for the new Village Hall in Jackson, N168 W19851.

The building includes a large atrium octagon entryway with offices splitting off to Village Hall and Police Department. To the left of the entrance is a hat tip to history as the brick used in the entryway was pulled from a farmhouse that used to sit on the property.

A plaque details how the bricks date to a home on site since 1866.

The home belonged to Reuben Schmahl. A gold-lettered plaque reads:

“The cream city brick lining the village chambers hallway was re-purposed from the original farmhouse built on this site in 1866 by the Schmahl family, who farmed and nurtured this property for over 122 years.

Reuben J. Schmahl (1914-2012) was actively involved in the betterment of Jackson and Washington County. In addition to operating the family farm at this location, he served the community in many significant ways: 30 years on the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, 44 years as Town of Jackson supervisor, 20 years as Jackson School Board Treasurer, 30 years as Bank of Jackson director and chairman, 28 years as a director of St. Joseph’s Hospital, and 45 years on the Washington County Board of Supervisors, 22 years as its chair.

The Village of Jackson extends its gratitude to the family of Reuben J. Schmahl for its part in making this site available for its municipal building.

It is appropriate his legacy of service be honored in the Village of Jackson by those who continue to serve here.

To the right of the entrance is the Jackson Police Department.
