November 15, 2019 – Allenton, WI – The Allenton Legion Post is participating in the National Wreaths Across America TM (WAA) on December 14, 2019. The goal is to honor our ~300 local veterans by placing a wreath on their headstones in our eight area cemeteries.
We’ll need your help this year to get sponsors to support our ~300 local veterans with a hand-crafted wreath made of an all-American balsam and hand-tied red velvet bow from Maine. In the past, the Allenton Legion Post raised enough funds to purchase only about 10% of the wreaths needed to remember our veterans during the holidays.
Allenton Legion members can also purchase a wreath to be placed on a Veteran’s gravestone located outside of our 8 designated cemeteries.
The Wreaths Across AmericaTM (WAA) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2007, by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester, to support the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Since its founding, the WAA has expanded to include nearly 2,000 local fundraising groups in all 50 states, representing more than 1,600 participating locations. In 2018, nearly 1.8 million veterans were honored with a wreath.
Allenton American Legion will be honoring our local American heroes on Wreaths Across America Day at the eight cemeteries the post is responsible for.
In all there are 287 graves to be decorated. For those that wish to purchase a wreath[s] for loved ones graves at other cemeteries may do so. These wreaths will be picked up at the Allenton American Legion Post on Railroad Street in Allenton. Each wreath costs $15, as this is an excellent way for our grateful community, state and nation to say “thank you” to our veterans.
We need orders in by November 22,2019. Order forms are available at Allenton American Legion Post 483 Facebook page or stop by Romie’s BP in Allenton or contact Ron Naab rjnaab@frontier.com or 262/629-9749
