Some scary moments for a Fond du Lac woman trapped on the second floor of a burning home this morning.
Fond du Lac Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase said when they got to 16 North Lincoln Avenue there was fire coming out of two windows in the front corner of the home. A woman was trapped on the second floor. The engine company raised a ladder to the window she and helped her safely to the ground.
Haase said the other tenant, a man, inadvertently fueled the fire as he opened the front door while investigating the smokey smell, thus causing more smoke and fire to occur. The woman was not able to get down the steps through the smoke.
Both were people were check by paramedics at the scene. The fire was contained to a first floor living room, but there was smoke damage throughout the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Damage is estimated at $35,000. Authorities said smoke alarms were not working at the time of the fire.
