September 13, 2024 – West Bend, WI – The West Bend West varsity volleyball had a tough battle with the Homestead Highlanders and lost a close game in 5 sets.
The West Bend Spartans came out strong in the first set winning 25-17. Libero Emy Miller covered the whole floor, getting up balls all over the place.
The next set the Spartans lost 13-25.
Shortly after, they came out winning the third set 25-19.
During these matches, right-side hitter Laila Hertel amazed everyone when she slammed the ball on the floor, racking up many points for the Spartans.
The next two sets were very close with the Spartans losing 22-25 and 10-15, ending the close battle with the Highlanders.
The Spartans had some amazing plays and outstanding hustle from setter Maddie Abel, who could get to many balls.
Outside hitter, Kylee Altendorf also had an outstanding match, putting the ball down on the other side of the net many times.
Altendorf had a career high 25 kills, with 12 digs, Emy Miller also had a career high 32 digs, and Abel dished out 40 assists. Emmalee Heniadis added 10 kills.
West is now 1-1 in the North Shore Conference and 4 – 5 overall. The Spartans will be playing in the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Tournament on Saturday and resume conference play on Tuesday, September 17, at Hartford with a 7 p.m.start time.
