West Bend West Girls Tennis Take Hartford 4-3

WEST BEND WEST HIGH 4, HARTFORD HIGH 3

West Bend West’s seniors brought out their best game to help propel West to a 4-3 win over Hartford on senior night.  While the match was not looking good after an hour for the Spartans, with 4 of the 7 spots losing the first set, West got their first victories from Brianna Bembenek at 1 singles and MaKayla Schlass at 2 singles.  After Hartford took the lead with wins from Abbie Groppie, Olivia Carroll and the 3 doubles combination of Kylie Grinwald and Darien Horst, the drama came down to the matches at 1 and 2 doubles.  Both matches went the full third sets, and both saw the Spartans combinations play some of their best tennis of the year.  Lizzie Hilgendorf took over the net at one doubles and Kelsey Nowack played some tremendous defense to tie the team match with theDr 1 doubles win.  Senior Katie Espen then attacked the net viciously as partner Katie Hayes served out the match at 2 doubles.  It was the last conference match for seniors Katie Espen and Emily Breckenridge.
