West Bend West sweeps cross-hall rival West Bend East | By Paige Guse, Maddie Abel, & Kylee Altendorf

West Bend, Wi – West Bend West swept cross-hall rival West Bend East in 3 sets. The first set the Spartans defeated the Suns with a score of 25 – 17.

With an early injury to Senior Breleigh Ustruck, the Spartans had to adjust to the absence. Junior Emy Miller achieved her 1000th dig early in the first set.

In the second set the Spartans won 25 – 18. The Spartans closed out the match with a third set victory over the Suns with a score of 25 – 19 Junior Nora Cybell stepped in for Breleigh and had some key kills for West.

Kylee Altendorf led the way with 13 kills, Emmalee Heniadis added 8 kills and Laila Hertel had 6 kills.

Emy Miller covered the back court with 15 digs. Maddie Abel had 27 assists and 10 digs. Katie Steier came off the bench to do an amazing job of serving with 4 aces.

The Spartans are 6-1 in the North Shore Conference and play Slinger at home on Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m.

This is the Spartans last home game where they host senior night to recognize 5 seniors.: Breleigh Ustruck, Maddie Abel, Kylee Altendorf, Avah Banks, and Paige Guse.

This article has been written by the three senior captains for the West Volleyball team.

Paige Guse is a senior defensive specialist, a 4-year starter, and has played volleyball since 4th grade. Guse also plays basketball and softball. She plans to attend UW Green Bay next year to play softball and study financial planning.

 

Maddie Abel is a senior setter on the West Bend West volleyball team. She has been a 3-year starter for West who just achieved her 2000 assist milestone. She has been playing volleyball for 10 years and plans to play volleyball in college while majoring in accounting or actuarial science.

 

Kylee Altendorf is a senior outside hitter and a 4-year starter for the Spartans who recently achieved milestones of her 1000th dig and 1000th kill. She has been playing volleyball since 4th grade and plans to continue her athletic career in college. Kylee plans to major in elementary education.
