December 7, 2021 – West Bend, WI – The Ice Bears battled a similar co-op team from Sheboygan in a physical game.
The Red Raiders struck first in the opening period with Kohler senior defenseman Meier Schick scoring unassisted. The Ice Bears responded with a goal of their own in the first period when Hartford senior forward Odin Klebba scored off a shot assisted by West Bend East junior defenseman Colton Kress and Germantown junior forward Camden Luedtke.
After the Ice Bears tied the game, the scoring went quiet for the entire second period and over halfway through the third period. However, despite the lack of scoring, the Ice Bears dominated time in their offensive zone, further highlighted by the 36 shots on goal for the Ice Bears versus the 16 for the Red Raiders (who also had just four shots on goal in the third period).
At almost exactly the midway point of the third period, the Ice Bears’ offense broke through as Germantown sophomore forward Stone Daczka scored a goal assisted by Luedtke.
A mere minute later the Ice Bears scored again as West Bend West senior forward Chase Pickett was able to drive a goal with the assistance of West Bend East sophomore forward Cameron McCormack and Slinger senior forward Talon Vorpahl.
The Ice Bears’ onslaught continued as with 4 minutes left to play and a 5 on 3 power play advantage West Bend East junior defenseman Sawyer Lichtensteiger scored a goal with an assist by Klebba to put the Ice Bears up 4-1.
The Red Raiders refused to quit however, as with 2 minutes left to play Sheboygan South senior forward Zach Tuzinkewich scored a power play goal. Ultimately it would be vain, as the Ice Bears recaptured their three-goal lead when Daczka scored a goal (assist by Lichtensteiger) with 52 seconds remaining in the game. Ice Bears’ goalie, West Bend West senior Kenny McAughey finished the game saving 14 out of 16 shots.
The West Bend Ice Bears (3-3) will their next game Friday December 10 at 8:00 p.m. on the road against Appleton United.
