June 7, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Kenny Asselin of the West Bend Fire Department has been promoted to Captain.
Asselin’s wife Sandy had the honor of pinning his new badge this week. Asselin will be in charge of the Fire Prevention division of the West Bend Fire Department.
Asselin grew up in Butler, WI and has been involved with the fire/emergency medical services since his years at Sussex Hamilton High School when he as an Explorer on Butler Fire Department.
In 1989 Asselin became a Firefighter/EMT with Butler Volunteer Fire Department from 1989 to 1995. He was an emergency services dispatcher and EMT before joining West Bend Fire Department in 1995 as a career member.
Asselin  has served the department as a Paramedic along with Driver/Operator
He serves as an Adjunct EMS instructor for Moraine Park Technical College and driver/operator instructor of Gateway Technical College. In 2003, Asselin received the Camp Staff of Year Award at the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety and was selected as Lt. Ray Dickup American Legion Post 36 EMT of the year in 2015.
Last year Asselin flew to Belize to serve as an adjunct instructor. He continues to be involved in supporting their emergency medical services.
Asselin joins the ranks of few that have been in charge of the Fire Prevention Division at the West Bend Fire-Rescue. In the 1960’s Jim Helmer held the position which eventually was handed over to Rich LaBuda for nearly 20 years. LaBuda was succeeded by Ed Geidel and most recently Captain Tammy Lamberg held the position.
Asselin has shown dedication and drive to serve his local community and state agencies in fire prevention and education.
