September 9, 2021 – West Bend, Wi – Another piece of West Bend’s history is coming down as demolition is underway for the old West Bend Brewery.
Excavators are starting on the north end. Cream city bricks lay in heaps at the base of beautiful stonework. It was a building where men worked to produce the beer that made “West Bend” famous.
Neighbors chime in about family that once worked the brewery including Ray Maurer.
“Two guys that work the back of the bottle house, when you pulled in to buy beer. Jerry Hauseman and Eddie?”
Robert Wietor
My dad worked in the Bottling House back in the 30’s. He really enjoyed his Lithia and Old Timer’s, always “in moderation” as he liked to say. He would not be happy about this.
Cathy Weinreich chimes in, “Johnny Stangl and My uncles; Jerry Hausmann and Corky Michels worked there.”
MAKES ME SICK OF THE HISTORY THAT WEST BEND HAS NO ISSUE DISTROYING! VERY SAD.
I worked there the summer when I was 17. 1965. Great memories.
If ya worked at Ziegler Landscaping you bought a case of Old Timers a month down there.
Terrible. You would think that beautiful building could have been repurposed for another business. All that wonderful old brick and stone, just destroyed. Sad.
