About 60 students from Kewaskum High School, West Bend H.S., Mayville H.S. and Hartford H.S. prepped for an upcoming regional competition as they took part in a mock trial scrimmage this weekend at the Washington County Courthouse.
The mock trial, presented in a court room in front of judges, is a way for students to learn about civil and criminal cases. Instructors said the experience improves a students understanding of the law and enhances their public speaking.
Mark Drake, who teaches AP Government, coaches the West Bend High School team and oversaw the event.
Participating members from the judiciary community who helped mentor students included Washington County Judge Todd Martens, County District Attorney Mark Bensen, County Commissioner Dolores Bomrad, deputy county attorney Chris Ohlis, and local attorneys Eileen Evans, Lauria Lynch-German, Dan Patrykus, and Johnathan Woodward.
The regional competition will be held at various sites Feb. 13.
