Day 2 Convention report by Jim Geldreich, Washington County Republican Party Chairman.
The Republican National Convention in Cleveland was gaveled to order at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. The main order of business was roll call of the states who officially reported their delegate count.
Several states cast a unanimous delegate count for Donald Trump.
Other states had their delegates cast proportionally. When Wisconsin was called, RPW Chairman Brad Courtney introduced Gov. Scott Walker who reported 36 delegates for Ted Cruz and six delegates for Donald Trump.
While he was casting our delegates, he was mobbed by media and cameras, even though Trump already had enough delegates to secure the nomination.
This is further evidence of Walker’s ongoing national popularity.
New York’s delegate report put Trump over the 1,237 delegates needed for the nomination.
The rest of the evening was a schedule of different speakers including Wisconsin’s very own Senator Ron Johnson, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey and Governor Chris Christie.
The evening was capped off by speeches from our own Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Donald Trump Jr. and former presidential candidate Ben Carson.
The theme of most of the speeches revolved around the nefarious behavior of Hillary Clinton.
