August 28, 2021 – West Bend, WI – There are six veterans from Washington County on today’s, August 28, 2021, Stars & Stripes Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
Korean War veteran Walter Kohler, 91, of West Bend has been waiting a long time to participate in the Honor Flight.
“We have to be in Milwaukee at 6 a.m. for check-in. My guardian is my daughter, Jean,” said Kohler. “I’m very excited. It’s been two years in the making.”
Other Washington County veterans on today’s flight include WWII Army veteran Anthony Elsinger, Vietnam Army Lloyd Westerman of Kewaskum, Vietnam Army Thomas Foshag of West Bend, Korea Army Eugenie Olsen of West Bend and Vietnam Air Force Richard Lindbeck of West Bend.
Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, Inc. honors veterans with a life-changing trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials and experience a day of honor and thanks.
In 2020 Kohler was one of 16 veterans from Washington County who participated in an Honor Flight parade. Kohler’s interview starts below at the 1:44 mark.
