September 28, 2021 – Kewaskum, WI – Kewaskum managed to take care of a winless Lomira team in short order, sweeping the game’s sets 25-10, 25-10, 25-8.
The non-conference win was the Indians 15th of the season as it continues to chase the East Central Conference title.
Current standings show Winneconne and Ripon are right there with Kewaskum, as both have either a similar or better overall record than the Indians (18-3 and 15-6 respectively), while Kettle Moraine Lutheran despite holding a 13-14 total season record are 3-0 in conference play.
Despite some rally attempts from Lomira, Kewaskum was dialed in as a team and dominated from the beginning of the match.
Kewaskum freshman Madelyn Marquardt really impressed with her poise in the back court, while also facilitating offense with numerous assists.
Kewaskum head coach Lavine Leitzke spoke highly of his team and their ability to play so well that they were able play multiple combinations of players in the match.
“We were able change centers in the third set. We constantly pushed the ball through and got a lot of good swings, making them (Lorima) work all night,” Leitzke said.
Leitzke mentioned the biggest challenge in practice going into tonight’s meet was energy.
Leitzke is confident in his team as the conference schedule heats up. “We have Winneconne and Ripon coming up which will be tough and right now Kettle (Moraine Lutheran) is still the top team in the conference, so we aren’t looking ahead to State at all,” he said.
Kewaskum will travel to Winneconne for a meet on Thursday, September 30, 2021, that will have massive implications on the fate of the East Central Conference volleyball landscape this season. The match starts at 6:45 p.m.
