September 7, 2021 – Jackson, WI – Living Word Lutheran varsity volleyball team had its hands full with a Dominican team eager to hand the Timberwolves their first loss of the season.

Despite jumping to an early 5-1 advantage in the opening set, the Timberwolves were not able to separate from the Knights, who eventually got just enough volleys to go their way to take the lead and later win the opening set 25-19.

Living Word Lutheran responded in the next set by dominating Dominican. During one stretch the Timberwolves grew an 11-point lead against the Knights, ultimately winning the set 25-16.

The final two sets also saw Living Word Lutheran jump out to early leads, but those matches were much more hotly contested. In the end, teamwork and player positioning, particularly when set close to the net, secured the Timberwolves victory, winning the third set 25-19 and the final set 25-22.

Living Word Lutheran head coach Dawn Walker was proud of her team’s resilience and their ability to rally off straight set victories. “It was definitely a confidence booster, we remembered what we are good at and it allowed us to take Dominican out of their game plan,” Walker said.

Walker gave praise to senior leadership on the team, in particular Ellie Juergensen and Lena Wessel, whose attitudes have set a positive and encouraging tone in the Timberwolves’ locker room.
