West Bend, WI – Some good news for baseball fans as the West Bend Little League officially kicks off its season June 1, 2020.
“We’re excited to announce we’re starting the season this year on June 1 and that’s from T-ball to all the other divisions,” said Chad Steinke. “It’s a great time to come out and play ball with West Bend Little League.”
Steinke said he’s been working in conjunction with the Center for Disease Control, hospital staff and Little League. “We’re taking a lot of precautions to keep the kids, coaches and spectators safe this year,” Steinke said.
“This is a fluid situation but with the information we have we will be able to have a safe, fun and successful season.”
Practices for Midwest Division and older starts May 26. The first game is June 1.
T-ball and Rookie Division starts June 6.
“Since it’s late this year we kept registration open since other teams and sports were cancelled,” said Steinke. “It’s our way of showing the West Bend community we support our youth program.”
Games are played at the West Bend Little League facility, 600 Water Street.
2020 Season starts in June!!! Schedule and teams will be coming out over the next couple of weeks.
Teams are not finalized yet, so there is still time to join. Click HERE to register.
My Dear Friends and Families of West Bend Little League:
As promised, last evening your West Bend Little League executive board of directors met to discuss how we re-open our leagues for 2020. Barring any further unforeseen circumstances arising in the state, we are pleased to be able to announce our plans. But before I do this announcement, I want to make sure that everyone knows just how much thought and deliberation went into this decision.
We weighed information from Little League International, the federal government’s three phase plan, the CDC, Wisconsin’s Badger Bounce Back initiative and input from area hospital employees. In doing so we developed an Infection Prevention Policy, the likes of which have never been found in any Little League constitution or bylaws before.
We take the safety and health of you, your children, your families and friends VERY seriously. Much like our current health situation, our plan remains fluid and will change with any changes in the state and local areas. So with that I ask that you trust in us to do what is right by your family when I tell you that we will be posting these guidelines in the coming weeks as we approach the season.
And so with that let’s talk about playing baseball and softball!!!
2020 Season – will run from June 1 thru the end of July, concluding with our usual end of season tournament for the older levels
Juniors, Intermediate, Majors and Midwest baseball will begin practicing as soon as we are allowed to do so and start games the week of Monday, June 1.
T Ball and Rookies baseball will begin practicing as soon as we are allowed to do so and start games on Saturday June 6.
Challengers league is tentatively set to start play on Tuesday June 9. Watch for an email from your league director confirming so.
Girls Softball is also set to begin practicing as soon as we are allowed to do so but I don’t have a set time yet for games to begin. All schedules are set by the Menomonee Falls director and we have not heard back yet. Our softball director will report to us soon with his findings. My assumption remains, softball will begin play around June 1 as well.
Coaches meetings will be held the week PRIOR to Memorial Day weekend. Watch for an email from your league director as to when and where. I know we are still looking for coaches at the following levels – Midwest, Rookies, T Ball and Girls Softball. The job may seem daunting on the surface but it isn’t. If you have organizational skills you can manage the team. There are guaranteed to be several parents of children on your team that can help teach the sport. And what a great way to build chemistry and comradery between parents and players. I can tell you it is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had in my life. Try it, you;ll love it!
Player openings still exist at all levels except Intermediate. If you know of a freshman baseball player who lost their high school season let them know they can play Juniors! If you know of anyone looking for something to do once we get let out of our homes, let them know that we will be playing ball at the complex very soon. Any younger child who would have signed up late but did not due to our situation, please let them know we are here and ready for them. And any club teams that canceled their seasons, let them know we have a place for all. Registration remains open at most levels. Sign them up today!
Lastly, the diamonds remain closed to everyone in large part due to the safer at home order as well as an order from Little League International. Please feel free to make use of the cages but stay off all diamonds until further notice. Your cooperation is appreciated!
We have navigated through the toughest of times and now I hope we are beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s all do our part to get our lives back to a “new normal” so that our kids can get back outside and play the game that they love so much – baseball/softball. West Bend has a rich tradition in baseball/softball with a Little League that has been a part of the community for over 50 years and high school/semi-pro teams that have had enormous success. Let’s work together to get back on the field again very soon. As always, thank you for your patience and understanding through this all. God bless all of you – stay safe and healthy!
