Washington Co., WI – In advance of Veterans’ Day in November, I thought it might be appropriate to honor a specific group of veterans in your publication.
Attached is a list of about 1,600 veterans who attended or graduated from the West Bend High Schools or were/are faculty/staff members there.
This research has been and is being conducted by Scott Mindel, Social Studies teacher at West Bend East High School.
The names and photos of the veterans have been turned into a film that plays continuously on a monitor in the main hallway of the high schools. The research was begun in advance of Veterans’ Day 2014 with about 225 names.
Since then the list has expanded to over 1600 names and photos. The veteran from the oldest graduating class is from the class of 1897 and the list includes graduates from the class of 2017; 120 years of veterans that passed through the West Bend High Schools. The list also notes those killed in action.
I have shown the film at the City of West Bend’s Veterans Tribute Ceremony, it has been shown on West Bend Community Cable and I have shown it to the residents of most of the senior citizen residential facilities in/around West Bend.
No one has been intentionally left off the list. I am always looking for names that are not on the list that should be honored. The information I am gathering includes: 1. Full name; 2. School attended; 3 Graduating class; 4. Branch of service; 5. Dates/years of military service; 6. A service photo (if willing to share). Contact information is:
