Jan. 19, 2019 – West Bend, WI – Probably one of the greatest sounds of winter – capturing kids sledding down the fabulous hill behind McLane Elementary in West Bend.
What’s your favorite sledding memory?
Growing up we’d go to Estabrook Park or behind University School in Fox Point. Fantastic hill. I think my dad had six of us sledding at one time. Metal runners and he’d be the base and we’d pile on top. Someone would grab a boot and give us a shove.
We got a blue plastic sled one year and my brothers held the rope and tried to stand and ride it down the hill. That was before snowboards.
Good times.

Daisy in Kewaskum – My best memory of winter fun growing up in the late 1950’s was sledding down the River Hill Park hill (fireworks hill) in Kewaskum. When the snow was ‘just right’ and the river was iced over, we would fly off the bank right out onto the river. Our sledding gear at that time were mostly metal saucers or Lightning Glider (runner) sleds. By the way, there was never a parent in sight!!
