Sept. 28, 2018 – West Bend, WI – No, you’re still not supposed to drive on it. That’s according to city officials in West Bend but the topic of when 18th Avenue is going to reopen is sure a hot topic.
It was April when construction started between Vogt Drive and Decorah Road.
The reconstruction project included new pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk, storm sewer and improved sight distance. There’s also a full sidewalk on both sides of the road now.
City Engineer Max Marechal probably is asked more than 10 times a day when the road will reopen. He had a meeting with the project manager on Wednesday and there will be another one today.
During the last meeting an issue with a cracked curb was discussed. That’s going to be fixed before the road opens.
Neighbors on 18th Avenue say people are already driving on it and moving the barricades.
Striping still needs to be finished.
The early projection from the city was to open in the road in mid-October. We’ll find out more today and post an update when information is available.
