May 25, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Mason Schommer of West Bend is on the road again thanks to some engineering students at Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac.
Grandmother Elizabeth Schommer said Mason, 11, received the bicycle through a generous donation by West Bend Lions Club member Geri Tackes and Play’n for Pennies.
“I took Mason for a bike ride a few months ago and realized the bike could really use a bit of tweaking to make it better for both Mason and the driver,” said Schommer.
Tom Roehl, an instructor in process engineering at MPTC, had some students work on the bike. “A lot of what we did was simply make adjustments to the handlebars and we added a plate and removed the pedals so Mason would have a place to rest his feet,” he said.
Students at MPTC put in about 15 hours on the project and as you can see in the video, it made for one happy boy.
Mason is a student at Fair Park Elementary School in West Bend.
