Feb. 9, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Looks like the brunt of the snow hit to the south of Washington County. Chime in with your measurements, let us know what community you’re reporting from and if you have an interesting measuring stick…. BONUS points for you.
On Sunday I found my trusty measuring stick from Jerry’s Super Service Station. Phone 370, 214 South Main Street, West Bend.
On the back it read: Wadhams Gas & Oil Goodyear Tires & Accessories “Complete one stop service.”
This week I located my white school ruler from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
It shows the original 7 astronauts: Malcolm Scott Carpenter, Leroy Cooper, Jr., John Glenn, Jr., Virgil Grissom, Walter Schirra, Jr., Alan Shepard, Jr., and Donald Slayton.
The back of the ruler was a total cheat sheet if you were studying astronomy. Distance to moon 238,800 mi. Dia. of moon 2,160 mi. Moon about one fourth as large as earth. At 20,000 mph it would take approximately 12 hours to reach moon. Day time temp. on moon 212 degrees F. Night time temp. -250 degrees F. A day on the moon is about two weeks long. No atmosphere on moon – therefore no clouds, rain, snow or wind.
Quote from John F. Kennedy 1961: “In a very real sense it will not be one man going to the moon, it will be an entire nation. For all of us must work to put him there.”
