Sandy P. was hesitant to take advantage of the Y’s program and ended up with fantastic success. Her testimonial is below.
I started this journey with “oh another-weight-class” attitude. But with a new doctor and high glucose numbers I thought I would give the class a try.
After the first week I said was “OK I’ll be back,” the second week after talking with Heather (she played a huge part of my success) I knew I had to get a mind set if I didn’t want to end up with diabetes.
I listened and learned the importance of fat grams in my diet, I started tracking my food shopping and learning to read labels for fat grams.
The group meetings, which I wasn’t fond of, turn into enjoyable learning meetings and I look forward to.
As time went on I realized it wasn’t the weight as much as the counts that mattered to me.
Three months into the program my counts dropped seven points, my cholesterol dropped, I was off one of my many blood pressure medicines, I was definitely feeling good.
The weight loss of 12 to 15 pounds was a bonus.
I could ramble on how helpful the meetings were to me and how much I learned to help me understand diabetes but at the end of eight months I’m off three meds, down 30+ pounds, and my glucose number as of October is 94.
I have made positive changes in my daily diet but I don’t even notice anymore.
Will it be a challenge to continue, of course but I really believe the knowledge I have gained will keep me on the right track.
I don’t have to kill myself with exercise or eating, I just have to make good choices.
