September 26, 2023 – Town of West Bend, Wi – “It was a big horse and when I tried to sing to it… that’s when it really started running,” said Rachel Womack of Slinger, WI who was out for a walk with her dogs around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on a trail off Sleeping Dragon Road when she came upon a horse walking the trail in the other direction.
Womack, who describes herself as ‘not a horse person,’ called the Washington County Sheriff’s for help. “I just didn’t want it going into the road,” she said.

Womack was hoping they would send a deputy who knew something about horses.
They did not.
In the video you can see the Deputy Russell easing up to the horse and with a full arm outstretched he tries to grab the halter. The horse doesn’t budge.
“Come on,” he said with a wave of his hand… like ‘let’s go.’
The horse is in charge and rather uncooperative.
The video then shows the deputy calling dispatch. “I think one of the dispatchers was a horse whisperer,” said Womack.
“It’s looking right at me,” said the deputy. “It’s just chillin’ here now so…”
Womack said while she waited for the deputy to arrive, she sang horse songs. “I was just making it up as I went along,” she said. “My lyrics were anything that rhymed with the word horse.”
Checking with dispatch about an hour later, it was confirmed the owner was contacted and took custody of the horse.
All is well.
