August 25, 2017 – West Bend, WI – A surprise presentation at GERMANfest on Friday afternoon as Jerry Beine from Modern Woodmen presented Herb Tennies with the Hometown Hero Award.
Beine praised Tennies for his 50 years of service to Washington County, his dedication to Germanfest and its volunteers and his commitment as a local business owner.
Aside from the certificate Tennies was awarded $100 to donate to his charity of choice.
“No, I didn’t know I was getting this,” said Tennies as he showed off the certificate in the VIP area at GERMANfest.
As for his charity of choice, Tennies said he’d have to think about that. “Maybe Germanfest,” he said.
The original Germanfest committee include Suzanne Tennies, Mary Lutz, Judy Etta, Lu Harter, Ruth Jansen, and Delores Stoffel.
Some members of the treasured committee members who are dearly missed include Bill Lutz, Tom Jansen, Ernst Frankenberg, Â and Lillian Oelhafen.
