June 18, 2018 – Hartford, WI – The dad’s were in fine form on Father’s Day in Hartford as they showed off their best cannonball splash at the Veterans Memorial Pool inaugural Cannonball Contest.

Fourteen dads took their turn pitching themselves off the high dive in an attempt to create a thunderous splash.

There was a rather large peanut gallery on the other side of the rope. They cheered, jeered and booed some of the scores held high by volunteer judges Village Administrator Steve Volkert, Hartford common council member and 59th Assembly District candidate Rachel Mixon, Tom Jeffrey and me.

Cannonballs were rated on a scale of 1 – 10.

One dad said his strategy was to “jump high and be fat.”

The winner of the 2 p.m. competition was Rick Michalak, followed by Chad Russ and Jake Schmidt.

Watch today as the Hartford Chamber of Commerce will announce whether enough money was raised to hold fireworks on July 4.
