January 23, 2022 – West Bend, WI – My it was a mighty chilly day to celebrate turning 8. But a small crowd braved the outdoors to watch Syrian brown bears Lewis and Clark; the 800-pound brothers, ring in another year at Shalom Wildlife.
Clark was obviously the more excited of the two taking part in festivities which included a pair of sleds filled with fruit and Twinkies. There were sheet cakes and German chocolate cakes lining a picnic table which was ladened with pies, cookies, donuts, and tubs of Cheetoes.

Griffin and Grayson Higgins from Johnson Creek, WI stopped to pay a visit. “I just turned 8 last Thursday,” said Griffin. He was a bit surprised to learn the bears were turning 8 as well.
“We’ve drowned everything in Aunt Jemima Maple Syrup,” said Shalom’s David Fechter. “Including the tires.”
After swatting some cakes off the picnic table and licking a majority of the others, much to the squealing delight of the crowd, Clark proceeded to roll around in the sleds filled with fruit.
Fechter said that was a “normal bear thing to do.”
