Kewaskum, WI – “Before COVID I would tell you we were open six days a week and I’m probably here 12 to 14 hours a day,” said Hair on Main owner Wendy Dreher. “Some of our clients were weekly regulars. So some of them have probably not washed their own hair since 1961.”
Dreher said the hair salon industry has always followed sanitary guidelines set by the state. “We have always made sure to wash our hands, we have a sanitary station at the checkout and we have disinfectant we spray. If the state is really going to crack down on us I want to know how many cases came out of salons… where we weren’t doing our job.
“If we’re not essential, why would the state have us licensed,” asked Dreher. “We have to earn the license, go to school and take classes. If we’re non-essential and you’re still asking us to pay our license….”
Assembly Rep. Tim Ramthun (R-Kewaskum) asked how it felt to be deemed “non-essential.”
“I used to think it was kinda funny,” said Dreher. “Now I don’t think it’s so funny anymore.”
