West Bend West varsity volleyball battles a tough Slinger team | By Gianna Hemauer

September 9, 2022 – West Bend, WI – The West Bend West Varsity volleyball team lost a tough battle against the Slinger Owls, 0-3.  Despite the loss 23 – 25, 22 – 25, 16 – 25, the Spartans still played a fantastic game of volleyball and never gave up on any point.

Sophomore setter, Maddie Abel, distributed the ball well to West’s hitters with 24 assists and played amazing defense against some big Slinger swings.

West’s senior libero, Megan Spaeth, set up the team for many key plays with her outstanding defense and serve receive finishing with 20 digs. Outside hitters, Lindsay Sandleback and Kylee Altendorf contributed with 8 kills each and gritty digs to keep battling against Slinger.

The Spartans are 1-1 in the North Shore Conference. Their next game is away, Tuesday, September 13, at 7 p.m. against Cedarburg.

About the author: Gianna Hemauer is a senior setter at West Bend West. She has been playing volleyball for about 9 years now and is a captain for the Spartans. She hopes to go to UW-LaCrosse next year and major in Finance.
