Nov. 11, 2018 – Washington Co., WI – The UWM at Washington County men’s basketball team began its season at UWO at Fond du Lac on Saturday. Both teams quickly exchanged 3-point shots to start the game. However, the Wildcats put the clamps down on defense, and they only allowed 24 first-half points by the Falcons.
Going into halftime, UW-Washington County led 35-24.
The teams began the second half trading a couple buckets, but the Falcons started to chip away at the lead.
Halfway through the second half the Wildcats and Falcons were knotted at 51 points a piece. A tie game that would hold through the end of the game. Neither team lead by more than four points the final 10 minutes of the game.
In the closing minute of regulation, UW-Washington County found a sliver of breathing room and lead UW-Fond du Lac by three points. However, the Falcons hit a game tying 3-point shot with eight seconds left on the clock.
Both teams failed to score after that shot, and the game headed to overtime.
During overtime, both teams continued to trade buckets, and eventually, the teams continued to a second overtime. The storyline stayed the same in the second overtime, and neither team lead by more than two points the entire overtime.
With 1.3 seconds to go, the Falcons hit a 3-point shot and permanently took the lead. The Wildcats fell by a final score 83 – 80.
David Britton led the Wildcats with 22 points including four 3-pointers. Miles Perkins and Ross Riegleman added 17 points each, and Daniel Britton contributed with 11 points. The Wildcats hit a combined nine 3-point shots.
The Wildcats will play next at home against UW-Marinette on Nov. 17.
