April 4, 2018 – Washington Co., WI – UW-Washington County (UW-WC) is pleased to announce Stephen Murphy was named the 2018 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year.
With over 30 years of basketball coaching experience from middle school through the college level, Murphy oversaw the UW-WC Wildcat team win its first state championship this March. He has been coaching basketball at UW-WC since 2013, first as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and then as Head Coach, since 2014.
During his tenure, Murphy has coached and mentored over 53 players. This includes three players who made the WCC 1st Team All-Conference, five players on the 2nd team and four players receiving Honorable Mention. In addition, this past season, UW-WC’s Arthur Barnes Jr. was selected as Player of the Year.
Murphy’s philosophy is to have an “academically sound team, followed by a basketball sound team.” He plans to continue coaching at UW-WC this summer for the youth sports camp programs.
UW-WC is a member of the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference (WCC), with athletic teams in soccer, golf, basketball, volleyball and tennis. Athletes travel throughout the state of Wisconsin to compete with other UW colleges as well as non-conference college teams. The campus is located at 400 S. University Drive in West Bend.
