Jan. 4, 2017 – West Bend, WI -Earlier today there was a report on WashingtonCountyInsider.com about the chance one of the seven candidates running for West Bend School Board would bow out.
That word has now been confirmed as Tina Hochstaetter has posted a message saying she will not be part of the Spring election. However, her name will remain on the ballot.
The ballot order will be draw at 5 p.m.
Hochstaetter’s note is below.
Yesterday, I observed a fantastic pool of candidates announce their intention to run for school board. Recognizing the experience of Tonnie, Nancy and Joel within the district compelled me to reconsider my own participation. I was unable to withdraw my papers so my name will still appear on the ballot. I conducted due diligence by conferring with a respected local attorney and the state elections commission to determine the most prudent course. Due to the race for the office of State Superintendent, the primary election is already scheduled for February 21.
As a new 7 month resident of West Bend I had decided to run because it seemed like there was very little interest. I recognized enormous opportunities to strengthen our district based upon my experiences in high performing districts both in Minnesota and Illinois. I believe it best to support Tonnie, Nancy and Joel and pursue a seat next year. I look forward to attending school board meetings, getting to know your children’s administration and teachers, and learning more about the issues that have created concern the past few years. Together we can identify solutions.
I am so encouraged that this is a time of great change and opportunity to improve public education in West Bend and Wisconsin as a whole. Please join me in supporting the candidates who will bring ACCOUNTABILITY back to the West Bend school board. Tonnie, Nancy and Joel have the skills, experience and passion to propel this district to its goal of excellence in academics, arts, and athletics.
The West Bend School Board primary which includes the race for state superintendent is scheduled for February 21st. See you at the polls.
