Sept. 27, 2018 – West Bend, WI – On Thursday night, 500 volunteers of the local Uniting Force for Good took action against hunger in Washington County. Company teams, organizations and individuals packaged 85,000 meals for distribution to local nonprofits, churches and school.
“It is incredible to see people from all around Washington County unite to help local individuals and families in need,” said Joe Fazio, 2018 Campaign Co-chair from Commerce State Bank.
“A lot of us don’t realize people in our community struggle with hunger every day,” said Kristin Brandner, executive director of United Way of Washington County. “We want to not only build awareness of this issue, but also take action to make an impact.”
The event, sponsored by Sysco of Jackson, helps to officially kick off United Way’s annual fundraising campaign, which runs through December 31. “Everyone plays a role in supporting our local community,” states Fazio. “The goodwill of this event serves as a jumpstart to our campaign, where we have set a goal to raise $1,675,000. A lot of local nonprofits, individuals and families are counting on the generosity of all of us in Washington County. We’re focused on keeping this positive momentum moving forward.”
United Way of Washington County provides an opportunity for community members to Give, Advocate, and Volunteer as ways to give back and pay it forward. Funds raised during the campaign will support over 20 programs aligned under the pillars of Education, Financial Stability, and Health.
