Students earn college credit while still in high school for passing grades on AP exams.
In 2023, HUHS students took 337 AP Exams while in 2024 the number was up to 509. HUHS students achieved above-average scores in Chemistry, Computer Science, English Literature and Composition, Psychology, United States Government and Politics, and United States History.
HUHS Superintendent Jeff Walters said, “The increase in AP exam participation at HUHS signifies a broader commitment to academic rigor and college readiness. These test scores show our students are willing to challenge themselves and that’s what we all want out of the next generation.”
Principal Kelly Lam expressed her appreciation for teachers and students, “We have been on a mission to create a culture of learning and the results are clear. Our passing scores are up by nine percent. It takes hard work and hustle to make this type of dramatic change. It’s exciting to see our students realizing that if they challenge themselves, they can achieve anything. “
“This is just another example of how HUHS is providing a jumpstart to success for all students, no matter if they choose a career, college, or the military upon graduation,” said Superintendent Walters.
Comparison with State and Global Scores:
- HUHS students’ average scores in the aforementioned subjects surpass both state and national averages, underscoring the school’s strong academic programs and supportive learning environment.
- The global average score for AP Chemistry is 3.31, while HUHS students scored an average of 4.
- In Computer Science, the global average stands at 2.9, with HUHS students achieving an average score of 3.64.
The recovery in test scores is a promising sign HUHS students are not only catching up but also excelling. The continued improvement in performance metrics highlights the dedication of both students and educators to maintaining a high standard of education. These rising scores serve as a benchmark for success and a motivating factor for future academic endeavors.
