Train derailment near Village of Reeseville in neighboring Dodge Co., WI | By Sheriff Dale Schmidt

July 4, 2023 – Dodge Co., WI – At 6:15 p.m. officials from Canadian Pacific have been able to open County Highway G at the railroad crossing in Reeseville following the train derailment earlier today.

This happened sooner than expected.  The train derailment clean up outside of Reeseville will continue and the public is reminded to stay off the railroad tracks.  The tracks are owned by the railroad and violators may be cited for trespassing.

Thank you to all who assisted with response to this incident.  There will be no further updates from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office regarding this incident.

Update

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and the Clyman, Lowell, Reeseville Fire Department (CLR) have formed a uniform command and we will provide regular updates to the citizens.

At this time there is no threat to the community.  Authorities are working with the Canadian Pacific to evaluate the situation and determine next steps.  A detour route is being set up around Village of Reeseville as the railroad crossing downtown Reeseville on Main St is blocked.  The official detour route from the south to the north, County G to State Highway 19 to County BB to State Highway 16/60 to County G.  From north to south would be opposite.

Original Release

On July 4, 2023, at about 1:55 p.m., the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a train derailment near the Village of Reeseville, town of Lowell, in Dodge County.  A Canadian Pacific train had about 25 to 30 cars derail with no Hazardous Materials on any cars so no threat or danger to the community as a result of the incident.

As a result of the derailment, the road crossing in the village of Reeseville (County Highway G or Main Street) is closed to traffic.

This may be a long-term closure, so please find alternate routes of travel to avoid the area.
