Feb. 4, 2018 – The UW-WC Wildcats suffered a tough loss against the Buccaneers of UW-Marinette Saturday afternoon. The game started with both teams trading baskets until halfway through the first quarter.
Then, the Buccaneers finished the quarter on a 18-5 run and took a 30-15 lead into the second quarter. The narrative did not change for the Wildcats in the second quarter as they continued to struggle to shoot.
Despite making five 3 pointers in the first half, UW-Washington County went into halftime trailing 44-27.
UW-Marinette’s size inside continued to wear on the Wildcats for the majority of the second half. However, the threes continued to fall for the Wildcats throughout the second half, as they made another five 3 pointers. In the end, the Buccaneers were too much, and defeated the Wildcats 86-54.
Meghan MacFarlane lead the Wildcats in scoring with 19 points including five 3 pointers. Greta Strasser added 13 points and finished with five assists and three steals as well. Kaytie Lighthizer also passed the ball well, and had another five assists. Sammie Brown crashed the boards recording six offensive rebounds and 11 total rebounds.
The Wildcats next play at home Monday, Feb. 5 against UW-Marathon.
