Jan. 14, 2018 – Washington Co., WI – The UW-Washington Wildcats traveled to Wausau to take on the UW-Marathon Huskies. The game started slow as both teams shot poorly from the field.
With five minutes left in the first quarter, the score sat at 7-2 with the huskies leading. Then, turnovers started to accumulate for the Wildcats and the Huskies press started to wear them down.
The Wildcats trailed 30-5 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter followed the same script as the Wildcats struggled to find any rhythm on defense and shot 19 percent from the field.
However, the team found some open looks in the second half, and shot better at 35 percent from the field including 33 percent from the three point line.
However, the Huskies were too much and the final score was UW-Marathon 112, UW-Washington County 40.
Marissa Kaul led the way for the Wildcats with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Meghan MacFarlane added 12 points on 4 of 7 from the three point line, and Greta Strasser added to the rebounding total with 7 total rebounds.
The Wildcats are back in action Jan. 17 at home against UW-Baraboo.
