May 10, 2018 – Washington Co., WI – UW-Washington County Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams captured the 2018 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference State Tennis Tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison in a two-day competition.
The men’s team won 19 out of 22 possible team points and the women’s team won 9 out of 14 possible team points. This is the first time in the WCC history of men’s tennis that the team was able to win the championship outright on the first day of competition.
The men’s team was led by Matt Melsheimer No. 1 Singles & Doubles, Jordan Buchacher No. 2 Singles & Doubles, Charlie Mundinger No. 3 Singles and No. 1 Doubles, Lucas Gough No. 4 Singles & No. 2 Doubles, Brody Jossart No. 5 Singles and No. 3 Doubles, Alex Schmidt No. 6 Singles & No. 3 Doubles.
Melsheimer – Runner – Up #1 Doubles
Buchacher – State Champion #2 Singles & #2 Doubles
Mundinger – State Champion #3 Singles & Runner Up #1 Doubles
Gough – State Champion #4 Singles & #2 Doubles
Jossart – State Champion #5 Singles & #3 Doubles
Schmidt – State Champion #6 Singles & #3 Doubles
The Women’s Team was led by Meghan MacFarlane #1 Singles & Doubles, Kaytie Lighthizer #2 Singles & Doubles, Sammie Brown #3 Singles & #1 Doubles, Audra Brandenburg #4 Singles & #2 Doubles.
MacFarlane – won the quarter finals match at #1 Singles
Lighthizer – State Champion #2 Doubles – won the quarter finals match at #2 Singles
Brown – State Champion #3 Singles
Brandenburg – State Champion #4 Singles and #2 Doubles
This is the first time in campus history that both teams won the WCC State Tournament in the same year.
The Women’s Tennis team last captured the State tournament in 2008, while the Men’s team took the Runner-up trophy that year.
