Hannah Stolz wins National Taxidermy Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota | By Dirk Stolz

Town of Wayne, WI – Hannah Stolz from the Town of Wayne, WI won the National Taxidermy Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The 20-year-old Stolz recently competed in the 52nd Annual National Taxidermists Association Convention, Competition, & Trade Show.

Stolz displayed her grey crowned crane, and it won Best Bird in the Masters, Highest Scoring Bird, North American Champion and Breakthrough Best of Show Judge’s Choice.

“The judges were very impressed with the mount overall and the facial details,” said Stolz. “The most challenge art of the project was all the feather details, because you have to move each feather by hand with tweezers.”

“For this bird, it was the most challenging with all of the facial details. I hand sculpted the entire face,” said Stolz.

Next year Stolz will compete at the World Championships; a biennial event, to be held in Europe in 2024.   

Stolz, owner of Windy Hills Taxidermy, is the youngest person to ever win the National Championship. She was also recognized at the 2023 Wisconsin Taxidermy Show.
