Burglary suspect in custody following high-speed chase | By Sheriff Schulteis

August 17, 2024 – Washington County, WI — On August 17, 2024, at approximately 2:02 a.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary in progress in the 5300 block of State Highway 175 in the Town of Addison.

The homeowner reported an intruder was inside her residence and subsequently fled the scene in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, a deputy observed a vehicle southbound with Illinois license plates on Highway 175 traveling at speeds of 90 mph. Deputies pursued the vehicle, with Slinger Police Department successfully deploying spike strips in the village.

The pursuit concluded at the intersection of Highway 175 and Pioneer Road, where the driver, identified as a 41-year-old Chicago man, surrendered to authorities without further incident.

Evidence gathered from the scene, including Ring video footage, confirmed the suspect as the individual who unlawfully entered the residence.

The suspect gained entry by prying open and breaking a sidelight window adjacent to the front door. While nothing of significant value was stolen, the suspect was found with property that appears to be from the residence.

The suspect, who is not known to the homeowner and has no ties to Washington County, has been arrested and is currently being held on charges related to the burglary.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the incident and is working closely with local partners to ensure that justice is served.

Sheriff Schulteis said, “Last night’s swift response by our deputies and local law enforcement partners demonstrates our commitment to keep Washington County safe. Thanks to the quick action of our deputy, and the Slinger Police Department, we were able to apprehend the suspect without further incident. The teamwork and vigilance displayed were critical in resolving this case efficiently. While the investigation continues, I want to reassure our community we are dedicated to ensuring justice is served for the victim and our communities remain safe.”
