The Wisconsin Lutheran Vikings traveled to West Bend to take on the Lady Spartans in volleyball on Tuesday and the night ended in a victory for West, 4-1.All of the sets were close and well fought from both sides. The place where the Spartans succeeded was in their tough serves they sent the Viking’s way.
On top of a West win, it was also Senior Night!
West Bend West has four players graduating later this year including Meghan MacFarlane, Lauren Klemstein, Kara Conley, and Sydney Faehling.
In a post-game interview with all the girls, they explained their post high-school plans, and shared a reflection about their four years in the West Volleyball program.
Meghan MacFarlane hopes to attend UW- Milwaukee or Marquette next fall to study Health Science with an emphasis on Sports Medicine. Her words of wisdom for the underclassman is never give up. “Even when things don’t go your way, stick with it; because there is always a silver lining” MacFarlane said.
Kara Conley hopes to attend UW- Madison and double major in English and Political Science, then possibly go into law school. Conley said she has enjoyed every minute of being part of the program. “I am so blessed to have such wonderful teammates and coaches, and I will definitely miss it once I am gone.”
Lauren Klemstein plans on going to the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis to get a double major in Political Science and Foreign Affairs. After that she hopes to get an internship in Washington D.C. and eventually becoming a United States Diplomat. Lauren’s advice for the underclassman is just simply be yourself. “High school is full of ups and downs, so just keep being yourself,” Klemstein said.
Sydney Faehling is yet undecided on college, but she would like to study Political Science and Criminal Justice. At first, Faehling explained her volleyball career as “a fun ride.” Faehling then dove deeper. “I am thankful for all of the coaches who have allowed me to grow as a player and an individual.”
Even the coaches had some input on the graduating class.
Assistant Coach Kevin Beuttner said, “They’re old…?…Well compared to the rest of the team they are older.” He thanked them for their dedication to the program, and they are leaving it better than they found it and for some, that is the definition of success.
Head Coach Alison Tanking admired the seniors dedication to the program, their club teams, and to bettering themselves. “They are all an all general good people on and off the court,” Tanking said.
Her advise to the girls and their future is to keep their sense of aspirations and work for the goals they want to achieve. “They really are a great group of girls, and they have proven that in their past four years,” she concluded.
All of these girls are integral assets to the team, and each contribute something.
