March 15, 2022 – Town of West Bend, WI – Neighbors across Washington County were enjoying the summer-like temps on Tuesday. Quite a few people were out for a walk… sans a jacket as sunny skies combined with warm temperatures over 50 degrees.
There was a buzz of outdoor activity as some hung laundry on the line while other put some miles on the motorcycle or found the perfect sun puddle.
Merlin Gerner was soaking up the vitamin D and enjoying the warmth on his face as he perched his walker up against the wall at Cedar Bay East. “I love to be outside,” he said. “I turn 93 next week.”
Growing up on a family farm in Newburg, Gerner reminisced about working at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac for 45 years and graduating West Bend High School in 1947.
“I went to grade school at St. John’s in Newburg,” he said. “Grew up on the Gerner Farm.”
