West Bend, WI – Snowy weather adds work to the day on Schmidt Century Farm in West Bend, WI. Having to feed and care for animals takes time but add snow and it makes the day even more complicated. We have to remove the snow before we can get to the animals’ feed. Snow adds a physical obstacle.
To reach the hay and feed the animals, snow obstacles need to be moved first. This adds to an already busy schedule on the farm.

We work hard to make the animals as comfortable as possible.
On the other hand, snow is beneficial to the fields. Snow insulates the hay to prevent the plant from freezing out with extreme below-zero temperatures.
Then in spring, the hay will grow healthy and thick.
At the end of the day, the animals are comfortable, the hay fields are protected, and the snow is beautiful.
