November 23, 2024 – Slinger, WI – The Slinger community rolled out the red carpet and welcomed home their WIAA D2 State Champions last night following a 31-30 win over Rice Lake in Madison.
Following a fire truck escort through town the team and school band took to the field for some recognition and to show off the championship trophy.

UPDATE – 1st quarter- Rice Lake scores a TD on the opening series – 67 yards on 5 run plays and a TD then ran it in for 2. Rice Lake 8-0.
UPDATE- Slinger TD and at 5:11 run it in for 2 extra at 8 – 8.
UPDATE | 2Q and Rice Lake Warriors score and attempting 2 on a pass conversion and score. Warriors lead 16 – 8.
UPDATE – Slinger drives field for TD but missed 2-point conversion and Rice Lake leads 16-14.
UPDATE – 2Q and Rice Lake’s Jacob Kunz goes down grabbing his left leg. Possible injury.
UPDATE – Rice Lake scores 22-14 and completes the 2-point conversion to go ahead 24-14 over Slinger.
At the half Rice Lake leads 24-21 over Slinger at the WIAA D2 State Championship.
UPDATE – Rice Lake QB Jacob Koons has suffered a knee injury. He will sit for now… starting the second half.
UPDATE – Slinger Owls receiving and carry to the 35 yard line. Keeper by QB Michael Thiede and Slinger gets a 1st and 10 at the Rice Lake 40. Thiede scampers for 5 and it’s now 2nd and 5 in 3rd quarter. Rodriguez plows way to 30 and it’s 1st and 10 again. Thiede to Schnorenberg for a 10-yard gain. Flag – delay of game Owls & 5 yd penalty.
UPDATE – TIE game on a Coal Martin 38-yard field goal. 24 – 24 with 6:25 left in the 3rd quarter.
UPDATE – Rice Lake grinds it down to the 14 with runs plus their first pass of the game as the 4Q gets underway.
UPDATE – Rice Lake takes the lead with an amazing run game 30-24. Strong Slinger defense and failed 2-point conversation.
UPDATE – 7:41 left in Q4 and Slinger at 35 and Schnorenberg runs to 37 yard line in Rice Lake territory. 25-yard completion. With another hookup to Leverance at the 30 yard line. Fumble and recovered by Rice Lake on their own 30 yard line. Warrior ball.
UPDATE – 5 min left in Q4 and Rice Lake fumbles and Slinger recovers in Warrior territory.
UPDATE – 4:45 left in Q4 and Slinger on a drive with a Thiede and Schnorenberg hookup for a 24-yard completion and the Owls at the Warrior’s 2 yard line.
UPDATE – Slinger on goal line and official whistles with a clock adjustment at 3:33 in 4Q. Thiede a keeper and scores 30-30. #GOOWLS Field goal is good and Slinger leads 31-30
