Slinger Owls start playoffs with a decisive victory | By Ron Naab

Oct. 20, 2018 – Slinger, WI – The Slinger Owls hosted Menomonee Falls during Friday night’s Wisconsin High School Football playoffs.

The Owls are a No. 2 seed in their bracket with Homestead the No. 1 seed.

Three and half minutes into the game, Jeraed Lighthizer scored on a 14-yard run and the point after touchdown was successful by Trevor Ulesich for a 7 to 0 lead.

Five minutes later Menomonee Falls responded with a 2-yard run by Julius Davis (a committed running back to UW-Madison), the PAT by Nolan Klug was good and the game was tied at 7 : 7.

The second quarter started off with a bang for the Owls, 4 seconds into the quarter, Lighthizer had a successful 8-yard run, PAT by Ulesich was good, Owls leading 14 to 7.

Five minutes later, Jeraed Lighthizer scored another touchdown with a 4-yard run, the PAT by Ulesich, missed and Slinger lead 20 -7.

With 7 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Lighthizer made it over the goal line on a 1 yard run, the 2-point conversion by Nick German was good and the Owls were ahead with a convincing 28 to 7 score.  However, Menomonee Falls wasn’t going to lie down and take it.

Nate McLean, the quarterback for the Indians, through a 38-yard pass to Quentin Redding for a touchdown.  Point after touchdown by Klug was successful, 28:14.

59 seconds into the fourth quarter, quarterback Danny Breuer crossed the goal line for a touchdown on a keeper, PAT by Ulesich was good.  Final score—Slinger 35 and Menomonee Falls 14.

Meanwhile in West Bend, Hartford Orioles [No. 6 seed] beat West Bend East Suns [No. 3 seed] 30 to 22.

The Owls will face off against next door neighbors, Hartford Orioles Friday night for the second level playoffs at Slinger.

In an early-season match up Hartford beat Slinger on Hartford’s home turf.
