September 24, 2022 – Slinger, WI – The Slinger Owls had a strong performance Friday night with a convincing win against the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes 35-7.
The first touchdown came early at 5:13 into the game from as Slinger senior quarterback Tanner Hora connected with Cameron Groves on a 9-yard pass.

In the second quarter, Hora found success in rushing which has been a growing pattern for him this season, resulting in a 14-0 score. Shortly after, Hora found junior Mark Leidel in the end zone on an 8-yard pass, resulting in a 21-7 score at halftime.
It was a scoreless third quarter for both teams, but junior Jack Klippel stepped up as senior running back Avery Kurth was unable to play. Klippel was impressive for the Owls, collecting 111 yards on 27 rushing attempts.
Slinger’s offense absolutely crushed the competition with 321 total offensive yards compared to a mere 151 yards by the Blue Dukes.
In the fourth quarter, Slinger finished with two more touchdowns. At 2:34, senior quarterback Luke Boden found Groves on a 6-yard pass for a score. Shortly after, junior Joey Mechinech scampered for a 24-yard interception return for yet another Slinger touchdown.
Hora went 7/13 with 89 passing yards and an impressive 97 rushing yards.
Slingers offensive and defensive lines performed great as well. Honorable defensive players include seniors Luke German and Thomas Stowers, junior Brayden Hayes, and sophomore Charlie Hoitink.
Next week, the Owls face Nicolet for the annual homecoming game at 7 p.m.
