September 17, 2022 – Slinger, WI – The Slinger Owls (3-1) easily defeated the West Bend Spartans, 42 – 0, Friday night in a shutout game on the road.
Coming off a tough loss last week against the Cedarburg Bulldogs, the Owls were able to prevail. Slinger owned the game with 422 total offensive yards compared to West Bend West with 106.
Slinger senior quarterback Tanner Hora went 4 of 9 for 67 yards passing. Hora also had an impressive 15 rushing attempts for 104 yards. Slinger senior Avery Kurth had 2 receptions for 49 yards total, 21 rushing attempts for 152 yards and he led the Owls with 4 touchdowns. Slinger junior Jack Klippel also collected 71 yards rushing.
Slinger quarterbacks Hora and Michael Theide were able to run the ball very well as they each hit the end zone for a touchdown.
This impressive game wouldn’t have been possible without the defense. Slinger Junior Joey Mechinech was able to stop West Bend quarterback Brendyn Grass from completing passes to wide receiver Nolan Wulf, who is the main target of the West Bend offense.
Junior Brayden Hayes and Seniors Cameron Groves and Adam Loesche jumped right in which helped stop West Bend running backs Pierce Crumer and Riley Van Laanan from gaining yards.
Next week Slinger faces Whitefish Bay at home at 7 p.m.
