Record high score as Slinger H.S. downs Cedarburg | By Ron Naab

 

Sept. 3, 2017 –  Cedarburg, WI –  Friday night’s football game was truly an offensive battle between the hosts, Cedarburg Bulldogs and Slinger Owls.

The evening started with a very impressive presentation of colors by the Cedarburg American Legion Color Guard.

With a minute and half into the game Jason Klink of Slinger ran 13 yards for a touchdown. The point after by Devon Mason was good.

This was followed by Cedarburg’s first possession of the football with a 7-yard run by Will Schlingman and the point after by by Schlingman was good; scored tied at 7 –  7.

The following kick off from Cedarburg to Slinger, lead Bodhi Albrent’s 70-yard run which was negated by a block-in-the-back” infraction with 4:23 remaining in the first quarter.

Nine seconds into the second quarter Slinger quarterback Tyler Evans connected on a 51-yard pass play to Jason Klink for a touchdown and then Klink followed with a successful 2-point conversion.  With 9:32 into the second quarter, Schlingman for Cedarburg scored on a run play and the point after kick was good tying the score, 14-14.

Slinger responded at 8:04 remaining in the quarter with a 51-yard run by Devon Mason. Slinger’s point after was unsuccessful.  Slinger’s defense stepped up and stopped the Bulldogs next attempt to score.

Quarterback Evans through a nice pass out to Mac Stoffel in the end zone for a touchdown, however the 2-point conversion by Slinger was in vain, giving Slinger lead, 26 -14.

The Bulldogs were not done scoring however with a touchdown at 1:03 remaining and the point after was good.  Slinger responded with a Tyler Evans run of 79 yards, on a quarterback keeper, Evans made the 2-point PAT and at the end of the first half it was Slinger 34 to Cedarburg’s 21.

Cedarburg started the second half with a touchdown at 5:10 into the half; Cedarburg’s Mitch Moeller scored a touchdown with the PAT good, score: Slinger 34 to Cedarburg 28.

Cedarburg had a squib kick fumbled by Slinger and recovered by Cedarburg.  Schlingman scored a touchdown with 5:31 remaining in the third quarter and the point after was good.  This score gave a Cedarburg the lead with a 35 over Slinger’s 34.  However, Slinger’s Defense came out in the second half with a new outlook and view and the Bulldogs scoring for the night was over.

Slinger scored a touchdown with 2:44 remaining in the third quarter, 2-point conversion was good by Jason Klink for a 42 – 28 score.

The fourth quarter saw Slinger continue to score and the Slinger defense being very stingy with the Bulldogs.  1:26 seconds into the fourth quarter, Bodhi Albrent lit up the field with a 53-yard run for a touchdown, Mason’s point after was good for Slinger now at 49 points.

Two minutes later Devon Mason had a 23-yard run, his kick after was successful for another 7 points to the total for Slinger.

The Owls denied Cedarburg again and took possession of the ball for a score at 2:51 remaining in the game Klink ran again for 23 yards; Trevor Ulesich came in to make a successful point after for a final score of Slinger 63 – 35.

Slinger Fans don’t recall in the past 30 years that Slinger has ever scored 63 points in a game.

Next Friday, Slinger Varsity Football hosts the Hartford Orioles for the “Coaches Versus Cancer” game.  The game will start at 7 p.m.
