UPDATE | FBI to investigate Slinger School threat

October 14, 2024 – Slinger, Wi –  A follow up on a story posted earlier today regarding the evacuation of two schools in the Slinger School District after a threat on social media was reported.

The note below is from Superintendent Jim Curler.

Dear Families,

The buildings have been swept and we have been given the all clear by law enforcement.
The FBI has been contacted and they are investigating this incident to see if they can track down the perpetrator(s).
I forgot to thank the quick actions of Riteway earlier today- we could not have handled this without their quick response.

Jim Curler

Superintendent
School District of Slinger
Slinger Police Chief Dean Schmidt also submitted an update.
Authority: Chief Dean Schmidt
Today at about 10:20am the Slinger Police Department School Resource Officer was notified by a high school student that he received a social media post indicating a bomb threat at the high school.
Upon law enforcement and school administration discussing the threat a determination was made to evacuate both the Slinger High School and the Slinger Elementary School. High School students and staff were dismissed for the day and Elementary School students were bussed to the Slinger Middle School.
The Slinger Police Department contacted bomb detecting K-9’s from the Cedarburg Police Department, Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Milwaukee Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol.
A thorough sweep was completed at the high school, elementary school and the high school football field. Nothing suspicious was located.
The Slinger Police Department is working with the Milwaukee FBI Office to identify potential suspects(s) in this incident. When the subject(s) are identified the Slinger Police Department will request charges with the proper charging authorities.
The Slinger Police Department and Slinger School District want to acknowledge and thank our assisting partners from the Cedarburg Police Department, Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Milwaukee Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Hartford Police Department, Jackson Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Slinger Fire Department.

This is a working story and more details will be posted when information is available.

Slinger High School and Slinger Elementary were evacuated Monday morning following a reported bomb threat. An email was sent to district staff.

According to superintendent Jim Curler the report of a possible threat came to a student via social media around 10:15 a.m.

“The student reported it to high school administration,” said Curler. “We evacuated the high school and because the elementary is attached, that was evacuated too.”

Curler said high school kids drove themselves home and parents are picking up elementary school kids at the middle school.

“We believe this is a swatting incident,” said Curler. “But we take all threats as credible and took emergency action.”

Slinger Police, fire and Washington County Sheriffs are currently sweeping the buildings.

Calls are being made to gather more and details will be posted when information becomes available.

Slinger School District

A message has been posted on the district website.

Dear Slinger Families,

Earlier today, some students at Slinger High School received a social media post indicating a bomb threat targeting the high school this afternoon. No other schools in our district have been targeted.

While we do not consider this a credible threat, given the prevalence of “swatting” incidents, we are acting out of an abundance of caution. We will be dismissing Slinger High School and Slinger Elementary School students early, and the building will undergo a thorough sweep by law enforcement to ensure everyone’s safety.

Here are the dismissal details happening immediately:

– ALL Slinger Elementary students will be transported to Slinger Middle School immediately, where parents can pick them up in the lower parking lot.

– High school students with vehicles will be asked to leave the area immediately.

– High school students who use bus transportation will be transported home by Riteway.

– All other schools will proceed as normal and will not evacuate.  However, if you would like to pick up your child, please make arrangements with your school’s office staff.

We will provide an update once the building sweep is complete.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
