Washington Co., WI – The animal barns at the Washington County Fair are teeming with activity this weekend as local Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4H groups prepare quarters for their show animals.
Allison Loosen is a junior with Slinger FFA. “We’re bringing in all of our decorations for our area,” she said. “Our theme this year is The Sandlot, a 1990’s movie about a group of young baseball players and life lessons they learned.”
Armed with ladders, scissors and staplers teens transformed the empty barns into a colorful backdrop to showcase their animals and put a spotlight on a year’s worth of hard work.
“After setup the animals will come in Tuesday and everyone has to be in place for the Fair to start at 4 p.m.,” said Loosen.
Olivia Strupp, 14, is with Slinger FFA and she will be showing two pigs and an Black Angus steer. “My dad’s boss Roman at 5 Corners Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram and he wanted to support my animal so he gave me money this year for my project animal to help pay for feed and care,” she said.
“I’ve been working a lot this summer but that donation really helped and meant a lot.”
